Winner UPY 2019 Awards
Last month I found out that I'd won the underwater photographer of the year awards 2019. My photo of 'Morning tide mackerel' took first place in the British Waters - Living Together category.
Underwater Photographer of the Year is such a renowned competition, with photographers from all over the world entering their best underwater images.
I was absolutely thrilled to hear that I'd won - especially as my photo was taken just down the road in my local harbour in St.Ives.
The photo wasn't planned, it was pure luck that I was there at the right time!
I was in the harbour that morning practising with my new weight belt for a blue shark dive the following day. As I was walking back up the beach I noticed a large crowd of people looking over the harbour.
There was a small pool of water which was full of hundreds of mackerel. They'd obviously forgot to check the tide timetable!
I wanted to capture the everyone above watching the event whilst also including the panic of the fish below.
The awards were held up in Coventry where my family joined me to watch me receive my award and give a short speech.
